Who is behind the lens?
My name is Garrett Middlebrooks, and my love for photography has been a part of my life since I was around 13 years old. It was then that I received my first DSLR camera as a gift! I would often ask my mom to take me to random fields so I could capture stunning photos of sunsets and birds. Over the years, my passion for photography, especially underwater photography, has only grown stronger.
During my high school years and most of college, I set my camera aside, never expecting to pick it up again. Life became hectic, and with COVID-19 changing everything, I lost that creative outlet. It wasn't until I began a completely unrelated hobby that I rediscovered my love for photography. In late 2022, I started my journey in SCUBA diving, which opened my eyes to a new world of wildlife and breathtaking scenery. This experience inspired me to capture those unforgettable moments and share them with those who may never see the beauty below the surface. Once I felt confident enough, I invested in my first underwater DSLR housing and a new camera with all the accessories. While underwater, it struck me: if I can manage this while breathing underwater, battling currents, and navigating in silence (and sometimes darkness), why couldn't I do the same on land?
This realization led me to embark on my journey of portrait photography and luxury wedding photography. I reached out to some old friends in the industry and asked for opportunities to shadow them during their work. They generously allowed me to shoot and shadow weddings with them, and I even got paid for a few!
Once I had my foot in the door, it felt like I had discovered a rewarding passion that I couldn't get enough of. I love shooting a variety of subjects, but wedding photography truly has my heart. The energy in the room, the smiles on everyone's faces, and the significance of the day for the bride and groom create an atmosphere like no other. Being there to capture those memories fills me with emotion and joy.
